Today is Super Tuesday where 24 states across the country are holding their presidential primaries.
In case you've been living under a rock, the 2008 Presidential election is wide open for the first time ever. Voters in America have more ability, choice and control over the next president than possibly ever before in our nation's history.
If you are registered Democrat or independent your vote is especially important in the Democratic Primary, as democrats award delegates based on a percentage of the popular vote in all states.
10 of the 21 Republican primaries are Winner-Take-All in terms of their delegates and independents usually cannot vote in those Republican primaries. If you are not in a winner-take-all state, then the delegates are awarded the same as in Democratic primaries. Even if you are, your vote could be the 1 vote that sways a state either way. In some places, it is that close.
If you are interested in Ron Paul I would especially urge you to get out and vote. However unlikely his candidacy may be for the nomination, I think it is important to support his campaign so that he will run again and so that other dark horse candidates learn from the success of Ron Paul that we might someday break out of this two-party system or at least start listening to the candidates who have repeatedly stuck to the issues rather than mud slinging. I do not agree with much of what Ron Paul has to say but I do like the way he says it. Every debate I have watched where he has participated he has shown intelligence, passion for his cause and a commitment to play by the rules. We need more candidates like him in both parties.
Who am I voting for? Well the Washington primary isn't until Feb. 19th. I still haven't made up my mind yet.
If you aren't registered to vote there is still time to register before the Federal Presidential Elections in November.
Please, get out from under the rock. Voter turnout in our country is abysmal. If there was ever a year for record turnout, this is it.
